Andréas Giannopoulos is a Melbourne-based narrative film director and writer. He has recently completed a Master of Arts Screen: Directing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, where he wrote and directed the short film Friends of Mine. Shot on 16mm film, Friends of Mine encapsulates Andréas’ current interests as a storyteller, including the power of dialogue, how art functions in our lives, and how young people navigate their social reality. The film won Best Direction in a Student Film at the 2021 Australian Directors’ Guild Award.
Previously his short film The Arms of Venus de Milo premiered in official selection at the 19th Revelation Perth International Film Festival. He participated in the Melbourne International Film Festival’s 2016 Critics Campus, and has been a committee member for both the Senses of Cinema film journal and the Melbourne Cinémathèque.
He is currently preparing a new short and writing a feature film.
